DEATH STAR

A Death Star  was a battle station designed and built by the Empire to conquer and control the galaxy through fear and intimidation (the Tarkin Doctrine). The Tarkin Doctrine espoused control of the galaxy  through the "fear of  force, rather than the use of force". The symbol of this doctrine was the ultimate super  weapon of destruction  known as the "Death Star".

The Tarkin Doctrine resulted in complete failure for the Empire and its ambitions.  Instead of bowing and surrendering to the threats of the Empire and its super weapons, people embraced the cause of the Rebellion and joined in the war against the Empire.

A Death Star was the size of a class four moon and was armed with a super laser capable of destroying a planet with one shot.

The Death Star was defended by hundreds of shield projectors, thousands of turbo lasers, ion lasers and laser cannons. These weapons were complemented by approximately eight thousand TIE fighters, thousands of support craft, gunships, and bombers.

More than a million Imperial support personnel were on board to service and maintain all  fighter craft, ships, bombers, weapons, etc. on a Death Star.
